How to use electric grinder and its accessories?

There are many different models and names for electric grinders, usually a pen shape that can be held in one hand, with a multi-speed motor that can be adjusted from several thousand to tens of thousands of revolutions per minute, and the motor output shaft (the pen end) can be connected to drills, cutters, grinding wheels, sanding heads, grinding wheels, cutting blades and other accessories through different types of pliers.

Due to the ease of holding and relative ease of working on the surface of complex work pieces, it is generally claimed by vendors to be used for engraving and grinding. Electric grinders are less suitable for large and hard work pieces, mainly due to the limited size of the accessories and the low processing speed, so even families are not recommended to buy a powerful electric grinder.

Security preparation

The electric grinder is a high-speed tool that vibrates during operation and produces a large amount of debris and dust when cutting; when the cutting temperature is too high, it can also cause the piece to melt, decompose and even burn.

Therefore, before using an electric grinder, the following precautions should be taken.

1. Glasses with plastic lenses that fit the face and bridge of the nose.

2. A mask capable of filtering dust and fumes, a gas mask with replaceable cartridges is recommended. Pieces of wood, plastic, leather, etc. which produce noxious fumes.

3. A glove to be worn on the non-dominant hand to operate the work piece; and the dominant hand to hold the electric grinder, please do not wear a glove to avoid slipping off and causing secondary injury.

4. Pay attention to vibrations at all times and stop the machine before a hazard arises.

Fastening the electric grinder

There are four types of fasteners for electric grinders.

1. By hand, which is more flexible and suitable for cutting curves and grinding corners.

2. Holder, with F-clamp, which can be fixed to the edge of the table, the holder can generally be raised, and the electric grinder can be suspended from the top of the holder. This method is to be used with a flexible shaft extension, the flexible shaft is attached to the motor shaft of the electric mill with a handle, while the other end of the flexible shaft has a steel shaft with a handle for the output power, most of the accessories used in electric mills can be connected to the short shaft; the disadvantage of the flexible shaft is that it amplifies vibrations and has a limited life

3. A U-shaped clamp, which fixes the electric grinder horizontally to a few steps higher, while the output shaft is also horizontal, at which point both hands hold the work piece, cutting and grinding it so uniform, similar to using a sander.

4. Fixed to a drill table, this method is not recommended, it is better to buy professional table drills and milling machines.

Accessories for electric grinders

1. A drill, at this point the electric grinder disguises itself as a drill, noting that it may be necessary to change the chuck to fit a larger drill.

2. Cutters, you will need a drill table or positioning cover, please note that electric grinders are generally not concentric enough (poorly balanced) and can easily drift when milling, this accessory is not recommended.

3. Mole, usually the so-called jade wheels are obtained, flat or long cylindrical, conical, olive-shaped, made of corundum, silicon carbide, etc., which are very durable, even if slow cut.

4. Hard grinding heads, commonly corundum or emery (steel type), with various head shapes, suitable for local modeling.

5. Cleaning brush heads, with wire brushes, copper wire brushes, nylon wire brushes, etc., for surface cleaning of rust stains or coarse polishing.

6. Soft polishing heads, with wool wheels, white cloth wheels, yellow cloth wheels, etc., generally more widely used in wheel shape and suitable for cone shape corners.

7. Sandpaper sleeve, this accessory should be tight with the rubber rod, first loosen the screw of the rubber rod, put the sandpaper sleeve and then tighten the screw, the sandpaper sleeve has a bottom mesh , more cutting purposes.

8. Cutting discs, made of resin sanding discs, sandpaper, abrasive wheel slices, etc, for two purposes, cutting or grinding of pieces, hard with abrasive wheel slices, soft with resin sanding discs, especially suitable for curved cut.

9. Self-adhesive polishing discs, which can be used in combination with positioning covers, with flocked sandpaper of various thicknesses adhered to the surface, suitable for leveling and polishing at medium range.

10. Profiled sanding heads for use with various types of splice rods, such as wood polishing heads for treating leather edges.
